Dear litlove, We've been at it for almost the exact same amount of time, and I think after a year and a half, you slow down a little sometimes -- I am glad to see that you're feeling up to visiting, which is a good sign that you're feeling better! xoxo

Hey thanks LK -- Dickens was such a proper Victorian gentleman, a busy guy, full of energy and confidence. We all need a little of that, and a wife too.

HMH -- those are cows? They're not HORSES? I was so busy ducking, I didn't get a good look at them.

Dear Emily, That is such a nice thing to say. I did have quite a few umbrella drinks, which is why it takes (took, I mean) me so long to post anything.

I think splitting the difference is a very fine idea, Ms. OP. Thank you for suggesting it!

Hello TIV -- it is sort of exotic, and it has been so wonderful having some time off to lie around dreaming about stuff, and letting other people actually DO it.

Hello Smithereens, I liked that sausage thing a lot, and think a movement might be about to form around it. If only I was not so so so so lazy.

Yogamum, I'm with her. I would also sleep well (a) on a greek island in the fall when the tourists are gone; (b) in London on a rainy day in a warm/cozy house with a lot of good books, a fire and a really fabulous leather chair (pot of tea provided by Dickens's wife). In fact, I am going to give some serious thought to this entire question, while lying in bed.

Dickens must have had incredible energy, to do all the travel and writing he did. Along with the fact that his wife took care of the drudgery work for him!

Italy AND Hawaii! How fortunate you are. I'm sure that you deserved a break and some restful vacation; I seem to recall you having had a rather hard time healthwise not that long ago.

I was in the wrong line when they were handing out friends like that. Darn.

I don't want to be a quibbler, BL, but you need to get out to the farm more. Those are horses that are upside down. Cows don't generally have manes and long haired tails. It doesn't make them any less menacing or distracting however.

Now THERE'S an experience I must try: reading a travel book while travelling to a locale other than the one described in the book. I'd say you've got quite a bit of Dickens's energy. I would have thought for a while about writing a piece like this, then become exhausted, and ordered another one of those umbrella drinks instead.

BL: who but you would mix italy and hawaii and you and dickens and construction and free lunches so very very well. DO send your next freebee invitation 1/2 my way and we can split the diff, ok? Thanks, too, as always, for getting to laugh out loud, which I often do at your posts, this one happened immediately after reading this:
" Dickens lived in two different places in Genoa, both grand and both full of the sort of art that must have made him want to lie down with a wet washcloth on his forehead."

blessings to have you back, posting
