Hey Ella, Hamster on! I’d love to see the proverb book. In fact, I’d be thrilled. I was just looking at your compendium this morning, and admiring those halos.

It actually is sort of fun as I go around and around. Fortunately, I have a strong stomach, which you need when you have to go over all your deathless prose in a month and make it better.

I just read part of your querying page–keep going, continue your bravery! I think it does take an Act of God–not only does our manuscript need to sing, it has to somehow strike a subjective chord in a random editor, and it has to fit the mien of the litmag. Whew!

I have to hamster out 5000 words next week if I’m going to stay on schedule for my stupid proverbs book. Not looking forward to it. For something that is sometimes very fun and satisfying, writing is also an awful lot of slogging and revising.

BUT, I have to tell you, the comment you left on Yogi Berra last week put me in an entirely new direction and I think I’m finally making progress. So, thanks! Shall I send you a copy when it’s done?

Oh, I don’t know, Marie, some days I wonder if I’m just a hamster running around my little ferris wheel thing, and everyone’s just too kind to tell me that, in fact, what looks like changing scenery to me (I mean, a new version of my book, new stories, a second and third book) is just the same old thing.

Still, if it’s fun to run around one’s wheely thing, then one should.

My confession – I started my six-page paper on Freud last night at 10PM. I went to bed at 2 and woke up at 10 (way too much sleep considering my paper wasn’t written…). I’m almost done with my (awful) first draft, have 2 hours and 47 minutes until its due, and am reading and commenting on your blog instead.
