Marie, I'm so glad! They're wonderful books.

Sandi, One of my favorite things Ella says is about how her books have a lot of soul -- each one being a little different. Very cool.

Cam, I just went in there and put up a BIGGER version of that cool scrapbook drawing. I wish I could see the whole thing. And I want to read about the circus strongman. (I'm glad you liked the interview. It owes much to the many wonderful and generous reader suggestions about good questions to ask.)

Oh -- it is, isn't it? There's a lot of rich stuff in this interview, entirely due to Ella's terrific answers and the bloglily readers' terrific questions. It's much longer than the usual blog post, but I think it rewards those who sit and take some time to read it. Ella has a lovely voice, doesn't she? Also, this new book about the colors is remarkable. i can't wait to see it.

W,R -- I could not agree with you more. I forget sometimes, after spending too much time obsessing over submissions and agents and editors and the question about whether the novel dying and will it be dead by the time I ever get a book out there into the world, that this whole thing -- reading and writing, I mean -- has at its core the potential for enormous pleasure. And Ella knows that. Plus, she's very funny.

A wonderful choice for your first installment of author interviews. I loved Ella's last book and I really like how she is including sketches in her posts now. The 2nd drawing in this post is not displaying correctly. It may be my browser but I wanted to alert you to it in case it was something wonky with Wordpress. I clicked on the photo & saved it so I could view it. Wouldn't want anyone to miss it. I wish I could peek into Ella's scrapbooks!

This is an excellent interview, both in terms of the flow of the questions and the quirkiness of this particular writer/artist doing her own thing in every possible way, completely unconventional and a great, great inspiration.
